Adjusting Privileged Access Management for Others

While privileged access management is one of the best things you can do for the safety of your company’s computer systems and thus the safety of the company in general, it is no wonder that so many businesses are following suit. The more security your company has today, the better. You will not have to worry about hackers and malware as much as if you gave access to your system to everyone in your employ. However, there may be certain times that you need to elevate Windows administrator rights for certain people.

Why would you need to give someone in your company privileged access management rights to your system? You will find a number of different reasons that this might happen.

First, if you have any employees who travel and take their laptops with them, they are going to need to have access to the files, information, and programs that they need to use each day. Even when you allow them to have a limited amount of access rights to those programs, there may also come a time when they need to have more. This could happen for a number of reasons, but you want to be able to increase their access from afar.

Second, if you have trouble at work where you need to have someone install new programs for the computers, or you need them to fix and reinstall the connections from the printers to the computers, the person who does this is going to need privileged access management rights. If some of the people who have these rights are out of work due to sickness or vacation, you will need to give the rights to someone else so they can complete the work. If you don’t, you could find that the work in your company slows down because no one can use the printers!

Third, you might have your own onsite or offsite developers who are building or updating some of your own software that the employees use. While the developers might not need access all of the time, when they are updating the program and adding it to the system, they will.

The above are just a few examples of why you might need to elevate the access rights of certain employees. Of course, once your employees have completed their task or they come home, you need to make sure that you eliminate that access again immediately. You don’t want too many people having access, so you can’t forget to remove it.
